The market for luxury houses is growing in Portugal

Portugal has been elected as the ideal country to live in but in specific areas.  

The Algarve has been one of the most sought after areas for renting or buying property.

Depending on the location and sea view, values can be around 5000 to 7000 euros per square meter. For example, there are many sought after 4 bedroom villas, with large areas, close to the beach and golf courses, which can be worth between 1.2 million and 8 million Euros.  

Near the capital, preference is given to areas of Greater Lisbon such as Parque das Nações, Restelo and Centro de Lisboa, with an exponential increase in demand in the centre of Lisbon for Real estate. The places of choice in the centre of the capital are Chiado, Príncipe Real and Avenida da Liberdade. However, there is little on offer, bringing the figures per square metre up and close to EUR 10,000.

The few properties that emerge are sold quickly.  

Cascais and Estoril are also the most desired areas, given the proximity to the capital without the chaos in the centre of Lisbon. The offer is mainly villas, having also flats with values that vary greatly depending on the typology.

In this area the most wanted places are Quinta da Marinha and the historical centre of Cascais.

While many investors are international from China, Brazil, South Africa and the Middle East, the Portuguese lead the way in buying luxury homes in 2018, acquiring about 62% of the luxury properties.  

The most desired areas

Regarding the area desired, investors prefer the district of Lisbon, in which the municipalities of Oeiras and Cascais stand out. Apart from Lisbon, Oporto, Setúbal and Faro are still the most representative districts desired by Portuguese and foreign investors.
