Lisbon Airport

Humberto Delgado Airport

In addition to the low-cost airlines, Lisbon has an airport that receives international and national flights.

On 15 May 2016 Lisbon Airport was officially named Humberto Delgado Airport. It is also known as Lisbon Airport or Portela Airport.

It is the largest airport in Portugal in terms of passenger numbers, with the largest volume of traffic. It was opened to traffic on 15 October 1942. It is a very well organised airport and has everything necessary for a large international airport. Since 1962 it has been served by two runways and has two civilian terminals and a military terminal, known as Figo Maduro Airport.

It serves as a base for TAP Air Portugal, the Portuguese airline, and is managed by ANA Aeroportos de Portugal.

The airport is located within the city limits and is only 6 km from the historic centre. It can be accessed from the 2nd circular and public transport such as the aerobus, the underground, which has several stops at the most important points in Lisbon, and the taxi or uber.

Increasing tourism in Portugal

Portugal is witnessing a major growth in tourism in Lisbon, corresponding to a significant increase in the number of aircraft landing at Humberto Delgado Airport. This year alone, there was an increase of 10% in movements and 23% in the number of passengers, compared to 2016.

As Lisbon's airspace is already overloaded, it has been decided to distribute the air traffic to a new complementary airport which will be located in Montijo. Thus, the price of houses in the municipalities of Montijo and Alcochete has increased by more than 30% over the last two years, a rate of growth that is twice that recorded on average in the rest of the country. The property market is expected to continue to accelerate in this area.

In the various municipalities on the south bank of the Tagus, prices are, as a rule, slightly below this percentage, but there is also a demand for houses in the municipality of Almada and Seixal due to the proximity to the capital.
